Happy New Year from all of us at Alamo Austin Air Conditioning & Heating, your local A/C and heating provider. Thanks to Austin and surrounding areas for allowing us to provide the area with the best AC service these past 11 years.

Currently, we are entering the new year and in the midst of what passes as winter here. The change in season doesn’t mean much. It may very well be 80 degrees Fahrenheit today, and 30 tomorrow. This fluctuating temperature range can create moisture build up, so can extra heat pumped out by washers, dryers, and heating and air-conditioning units. Although unintentional this does lead to some discomfort, such as humidity.

H-U-M-I-D-I-T-Y. No other word was written with more disdain. We are just kidding, but seriously who likes it? No one, no one does – well no one in their right mind. It’s simply terrible. An awful situation – a sticky and sweaty mess, filled with bad hair days and clingy clothing. Not only is humidity uncomfortable, it could negatively affect your health. Consequently, it could cause difficulty sleeping, irritation for those with allergies or asthma, and upper respiratory infections and illnesses. All things considered, let’s make eliminating humidity a priority!

Lower Humidity Levels

Once moisture levels reach 60% the human body begins to have difficulty in evaporating the sweat it produces. This causes the sticky situation previously mentioned. There are many ways to reduce moisture in within your space. Here are a few:

  • Make ventilation number one. First, this means open windows and doors if it’s not too warm and muggy outside. Second, you can also help the process along by turning on fans and turning off any mechanisms that create warmth. If you need to use these items, redirect steam out of the house. Also, cleaning dryer ducts decreases moisture levels and the potential for electrical fires.
  • Purchase a dehumidifier. Watching these babies work is amazing. The amount of water in the air around you will amaze you! Be sure to change the filters out often, as often is specified by the manufacturer.
  • Keep tabs on repairs. Check to make sure there are no leaks in the pipes, walls, or roof.
